It's always a pleasure to come across an older house that has inherent style and charm,
and owners who want to restore and enhance those properties. Such is the case with this interesting home just outside of Ayr, Ontario.
This is a perfect example of the Canadian Farmer, an Ontario vernacular of the Italianate style. I am struck by the pleasing proportions of this grand Victorian home, the symmetry of the elements surrounding the central entrance and the simplicity of its style. It beckons a time when one didn't need to overcompensate with too many textures and colours to make up for poor design choices, as we see in many subdivision houses today. It is a joy to work with such unspoiled beauty.
